Gov. Gavin Newsom, along with the California Strategic Growth Council, recently announced $757 million in funding to advance the building of affordable housing throughout California. This investment is expected to create more than 2,500 affordable homes and 150 new zero-emissions buses as well as improve miles of sidewalks and add over 50 miles of bikeways in communities statewide.
“California is reimagining its communities to address climate change and housing scarcity,” said Newsom. “These investments will help reduce carbon pollution while creating more affordable housing for a clean energy future.”
More than half the total allocated was directed towards Northern California projects through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program . The last round alone leveraged a total of $2.4 billion from local, state, federal and private sources combined .
