When Michael Beckerman entered the proptech space in 2017, “there really wasn’t much of a tech sector” in commercial real estate. He and partner Lindsey Imperatore set out to fill that void with CREtech, a platform for events, research and thought leadership around technology in the built world. The latest manifestation of this platform is the upcoming CREtech New York event on September 19-21 at Javits Center on Manhattan’s West Side.
In those first couple years after launch, all eyes were focused on funding going into proptech; however Beckerman was “always a little suspicious” as it could be “fool’s gold”. This view crystallized during COVID-19 when adoption of proptech ramped up due to companies needing solutions to their challenges. Nowadays one third or more of attendees at such events are from real estate companies rather than just tech firms talking amongst themselves as before.
Beckerman provides insights into capital flow towards propetech and what he hopes attendees will get out of CREtech New York experience in an interview video below with Daniel Ceniceros CEO Connect Media .
