When Michael Beckerman entered the proptech space in 2017, “there really wasn’t much of a tech sector” in commercial real estate. He and partner Lindsey Imperatore set out to fill that void with CREtech, a platform for events, research and thought leadership around technology in the built world. The latest manifestation of this platform is an upcoming event scheduled for Sept 19-21 at the Javits Center on Manhattan’s West Side.
For its first couple years after launch, all eyes were on funding going into proptech; however Beckerman was skeptical about it being “fool’s gold.” This view crystallized during COVID-19 when adoption of proptech ramped up due to companies facing challenges needing solutions from technology. As such CRE companies are now present at events like CREtech New York which began as “tech companies talking to other tech companies” but now has more than a third of its audience made up by real estate firms.
In an interview between Beckerman and Ceniceros below they discuss whether capital is flowing into proptech as well as what attendees can expect from attending CREtech New York experience .
