For years, the mystery behind the acquisition of thousands of acres of farmland in Solano County remained unsolved. However, recent reports from Los Angeles Times and other sources have revealed that an entity known as Flannery Associates is responsible for buying 55,000 acres in the county for upwards of $800 million. It has been reported that Silicon Valley tech billionaires are among its backers and they plan to build at least one city on this land with tens of thousands homes along with a large solar energy farm, orchards containing over a million trees and more than ten thousand acres dedicated to parks and open space.
The survey sent out last week to area residents asked them their opinion about this new city project which borders Travis Air Force Base according to The Times . As per state conservation program regulations ,the land was restricted only for agricultural purposes or open space use; however Flannery Associates wants it rezoned which requires approval by multiple state & county agencies – something not as simple as asking residents’ vote on it – officials familiar with process told The Times .
U.S Rep John Garamendi who represents region said he had been trying hard alongwith U S Rep Mike Thompson but unable find out who was behind such massive land grab until recently when representatives from Flannery attempted arrange meetings & survey sent out local people’s opinion about project .
