Studio Gang Architects Welcomes Back Former Head of CDOT as Principal

Former Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gia Biagi has returned to renowned architecture firm Studio Gang in a newly-created role as Principal of Urbanism. In this position, she will lead planning and urban design efforts on a national scale. Prior to her current appointment, Biagi worked for the firm from 2015 to 2019 before being hired as transportation commissioner by former Mayor Lightfoot.

Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed his admiration for Biagi’s accomplishments in a press release: “As commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation, Gia Biagi has been instrumental in implementing transportation systems and critical public infrastructure that improves neighborhoods, connects residents, and promotes safe and sustainable mobility.”

Studio Gang is widely recognized for its iconic designs throughout Chicago; it was awarded Architizer A+ Firm Of The Year Award 2016 and National Design Award from Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum 2013 among other accolades. Founded by Jeanne Gang , Studio Gang continues to be an innovative leader within the industry .
