"How 'Hotelization' Can Enhance the On-Site Office Experience: Q&A with Project Management Advisor Mark Knott"

Bringing more hospitality-inspired experiences and amenities into the workplace has been a slow but steady trend, going back well before the COVID-19 pandemic. As companies with mandated return to office (RTO) policies compete with those that still allow remote work, providing a hospitality-inspired experience in the office can make transitioning back to work much more attractive for employees. Project Management Advisors’ Vice President and National Hospitality Leader Mark Knott explains how hotelization is manifesting itself today and how landlords and employers are using it to encourage employees’ return.

Knott notes that flexibility is key when it comes to incorporating hotelization into an office space – offering spaces where employees can choose their workspace daily or transition from working lunchroom areas throughout different parts of their day. Huddle rooms act as mini conference rooms for team workshops while wellness rooms provide quiet places for recharging during breaks in between tasks. At building level, concierge services help support staff by taking care of day-to-day activities which may distract from productivity while art programs keep spaces active and fresh looking at all times. Finally, creating “wow factor” public spaces open to all tenants or available for private events helps create an inviting atmosphere within any project’s environment; people will be drawn towards gathering there at noon whether it’s just grabbing some sunshine on a nice day or having lunch together with colleagues..
