The eclectic Austin hot spot of Sixth Street between Brazos Street and I-35 is set to transform, thanks to Stream Realty Partners owning 40 properties in the area. Last week’s vote by Austin City Council allowing taller buildings on a portion of Sixth Street has advanced Stream’s vision for the edgy neighborhood into becoming more of a mixed-use district intended for round-the-clock use.
Raising height restrictions opens up options for Stream; on the 500 block, they plan to construct a 150 – 160 room hotel that will rise more than 70 feet high or five floors at least. On the 600 block, they intend to build a 122 foot tall residential tower which would likely be 10 or more floors. Food and beverage purveyors will still remain as driving forces in this vibrant neighborhood despite its transformation plans underway.
