Compass Datacenters has signed a contract to purchase the sprawling 273-acre Sears corporate headquarters site in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This will be Compass’ first location in the Chicago area and marks their entry into Cook County. The 2.4 million square foot property was assessed at $50 million for 2021, down from its 2013 value of $150 million.
Sears declared bankruptcy in 2018 and had more than 4,000 employees on-site prior to being acquired by Transformco that same year. Founded in 2011, Compass Datacenters now has 16 data center sites around the world after recently being acquired by Brookfield and investor Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in June for an estimated $5.5 billion..
