Long Beach & Santa Rosa, CA Join Prohousing Community Roster

California’s Department of Housing and Community Development has designated Long Beach, Moreno Valley, Santa Rosa, Sonoma County and the Town of Windsor as Prohousing communities. Through this designation, these jurisdictions are now eligible for funding incentives and additional resources through a state grant program designed to accelerate housing production.

Governor Gavin Newsom commented: “Every city and county across California must collaborate to address the state’s housing crisis. Rather than shirk their responsibilities, these Prohousing communities have committed to building more homes quickly.”
The Prohousing Designation Program was established by the 2019-20 Budget Act as part of a package aimed at helping California reach its goal of constructing 2.5 million homes by 2030 – including at least one million affordable units – with supports, incentives and accountability measures in place. Since February 2022 when Sacramento became the first jurisdiction granted this designation 27 cities have followed suit with Long Beach being added most recently in June 2021 .
