Roxbury’s Flat 9 at Whittier, a mixed-income housing project located at the former Whittier Street Apartments in Lower Roxbury, recently celebrated its completion and broke ground on the final phase of development. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Mayor Michelle Wu and other partners attended the event to mark this milestone.
Located at 100 Cabot St., Flat 9 is a joint effort between Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), Boston Housing Authority (BHA), City of Boston and Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC) to renovate public housing units in Roxbury. The redevelopment includes 316 apartments with substantial new commercial space creating an integrated site for both residents and businesses alike.
Phase 3 will include 172 apartments as well as 9,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space plus roof decks, fitness facilities and other shared amenities for community use. The project was awarded $30 million from the federal Choice Neighborhoods Initiative grant by President Obama’s administration during his tenure in office.
