The 600 Building stands empty for now, all 21 stories. After a number of starts and stops, the 60-year old tower may be ready to begin its latest chapter. According to The Caller, plans call for converting the existing office space into 126 new apartment units with five penthouse suites on the top story and commercial space on the ground floor.
Estimated costs of repurposing this building include removing interiors, replacing walls and installing new plumbing and electrical components as well as elevators – totaling $36 million. A reimbursement agreement with the city includes tax incentives up to $4.6 million; this figure accounts for a grant of approximately $3.27 million plus about $1.25 in property tax relief over 10 years time frame . Marcel Wisznia , a Corpus Christi native who currently heads an architectural design firm in New Orleans is leading this project’s development .
