Ten Houston Office Properties Going Green with Brookfield

Brookfield Properties is taking a major step towards sustainability with its commitment to procure enough energy from green sources by 2026 to fulfill its zero emission policy. The company’s 70 million-square-foot portfolio, including 10.3 million square feet in Houston, will be powered by renewable electricity generated from hydropower, solar, wind and nuclear sources.

To meet this goal for their ten downtown Houston office towers specifically, Brookfield has planned to finance the construction of a new Texas solar plant that would generate more than enough electricity – approximately 90 000 MWh annually – required for these buildings.

“We are committed to completely transforming how we power our office buildings throughout the United States,” said Ben Brown of Brookfield Properties “rather than taking incremental steps or waiting for others to act.”
