Governor Warns of Wildfire Smoke Returning to New York on Wednesday

Governor Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers of potential unhealthy air quality statewide on Wednesday, June 28 due to thick surface smoke from Canadian wildfires and other pollutants. A cold front is expected to bring winds that could spread the smoke across the state.

The Governor advised those vulnerable to air pollution, such as children and older adults, as well as all individuals in general, to take necessary precautions when Air Quality Index (AQI) is above 100 or 150 respectively. Wearing a well-fitting face mask outdoors during these conditions was recommended by the New York State Department of Health. Organizations with outdoor activities or workforces should plan for potential changes accordingly.
