Blue Owl Capital has provided a $106 million senior loan to refinance The Lowell Hotel, a 74-key luxury boutique property on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The refinancing replaces the existing debt on the hotel at 28 E. 63rd Street, where the asset has been owned and operated by Kensico Properties since it was first developed as a hotel in 1984.
CBRE advised Kensico Properties on the refinancing, with a team led by Matthew Klauer. The mandate focused on securing new senior financing for the long-held hospitality asset, which is positioned between Madison and Park avenues in one of Manhattan’s most established luxury corridors.
Since opening as a hotel, The Lowell has built a reputation as a global luxury destination. The property has received recognition from several prominent travel publications and organizations, including Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, and The Leading Hotels of the World. These accolades underscore the hotel’s positioning in the upper tier of the hospitality market and its appeal to high-end travelers.
In 2025, the hotel received one of its most notable distinctions when Andrew Harper named The Lowell the Best Hotel in the World. This designation added to the asset’s existing profile within international hospitality rankings and reinforced its standing among luxury hotels.
Klauer described The Lowell as one of the most storied and irreplaceable luxury hospitality assets in the United States, citing its reputation, market position, and experienced ownership as key factors supporting the lending opportunity. Kensico Properties’ long-term ownership and operational role since the property’s development were highlighted as part of the narrative around stability and asset quality.
The transaction illustrates ongoing lender interest in well-established, high-end hotel assets in prime urban neighborhoods. By bringing in Blue Owl Capital as the senior lender on the refinancing, Kensico Properties has updated the capital structure on a flagship hospitality property that has maintained a strong brand presence and significant industry recognition over several decades.
