Seattle Chamber Music Society to Build New Center for Chamber Music at U.S. Bank Center

Seattle Chamber Music Society Plans to Build Concert Hall Inside US Bank Center

Embedding a purpose-built concert hall in a refreshed downtown office tower underscores how cultural users can help activate legacy assets and support long-term foot traffic. Owners and lenders should note growing demand from mission-driven institutions seeking stable, specialized space in core locations rather than traditional short-term event venues.

The Seattle Chamber Music Society has unveiled plans for a new Center for Chamber Music in downtown Seattle, establishing what is described as the city’s first permanent venue dedicated specifically to chamber music performance and related activities. The facility is being planned as a purpose-built home for concerts, education, recording, and community engagement, consolidating a range of artistic functions under one roof.

The Center for Chamber Music is slated to be located inside the newly refreshed U.S. Bank Center at 6th and Union, positioned in the heart of Seattle’s broader arts ecosystem. Within the building, the project will include a 271-seat concert hall that is intended to host chamber music performances in an intimate setting. In addition to the main hall, the plans call for dedicated rehearsal space, a hospitality suite to support visiting artists and events, and office space for the Seattle Chamber Music Society’s administrative operations.

Construction on the Center is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2026, following the building’s repositioning as a renewed destination in the downtown core. The timeline outlined by the organization targets an opening in early 2028, providing a roughly year-long runway from the start of work to first performances. Sellen Construction has been identified as the contractor for the project, taking on delivery of the new concert hall and associated spaces within the existing office tower.

Once complete, the Center for Chamber Music is expected to function as the Seattle Chamber Music Society’s primary concert venue. By concentrating performances, rehearsals, and organizational functions in a single downtown location, the Society anticipates increased flexibility in shaping both its festival offerings and its year-round programming calendar. The venue is also intended to support educational initiatives and outreach, leveraging the new hall and support spaces for a variety of community-facing uses tied to chamber music.

Even with this new flagship space, the Seattle Chamber Music Society plans to maintain a presence across multiple locations in the region. The organization will continue to present concerts at other venues around Seattle and the greater Puget Sound area, including Benaroya Hall and Town Hall Seattle. The new Center for Chamber Music inside U.S. Bank Center is therefore positioned as an expansion and consolidation of the Society’s footprint rather than a full relocation away from its existing performance partners.
