The renovation of the former Wyndham San Antonio River Walk is still underway. Scarlett Hotel Group (SHG) and Trailbreak Partners have taken longer than expected to complete the project, which has seen its budget balloon from an initial $50 million to a staggering $158 million. According to the San Antonio Business Journal, this is due in part to plans for repositioning the 391-room, 21-story tower as a luxury destination hotel under InterContinental’s brand name.
The transformation will include more than 40,000 square feet of new meeting spaces, restaurants and bars as well as luxurious rooftop amenities with direct access onto River Walk and river taxi landing area. The hotel first opened in 1958 as an office tower but it won’t be until late 2024 that guests can experience its full makeover potential.
