CBRE: Boston/Cambridge is the Leading Market for Life Sciences Research Talent

Boston and Cambridge remain the top markets for life sciences research talent in the United States, according to a recent analysis by CBRE. The region’s leading position is attributed to its world-class universities, including Harvard and Boston University, as well as a workforce of over 36,450 life sciences research professionals. Concentrating such an abundance of talent within a compact area makes Boston an especially powerful cluster along the 450-mile Northeast coast corridor that also includes Washington D.C./Baltimore; New York/New Jersey; and Philadelphia.

Despite economic concerns in recent years, U.S.-based life sciences researchers have increased by 87% since 2000 – far outpacing all other occupations at 14%. This resilience is credited to sustained demand for these jobs even during recessions or when labor markets are tight overall .
