**Historic Galveston Office Building to Transform Into Boutique Hotel**
The Itex Group is set to breathe new life into a long-vacant historic building in Galveston, Texas. The former Medical Arts Building, an 11-story structure originally constructed in 1929, will undergo a dramatic transformation into a boutique hotel named The Quay.
Once complete, The Quay will feature 120 rooms, including uniquely designed suites and guest accommodations. Plans also include a ground-floor restaurant and bar, contributing to the hotel’s vibrant local atmosphere. The project will be part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, a brand known for its locally inspired boutique hotels. Hotel operations will be managed by Driftwood Hospitality Management.
Houston-based MCS Architects has been selected to design the renovation, although a general contractor has yet to be announced. Itex is aiming for a January 2028 opening.
Itex originally purchased the property in 2016 with the intention of redeveloping it into apartment units. However, the project later shifted focus to a hotel concept. The building has remained vacant since the 1980s, representing a key opportunity for revitalization in Galveston’s downtown historic district.
