Bercy Chen Studio in Austin Planning 326-Unit Apartment Complex

An Austin architectural firm is planning to build a 326-unit apartment complex along North Lamar Boulevard. The Austin Business Journal reports that public documents indicate Bercy Chen Studio is planning the project, which will set aside half of the units as affordable.

The scope of work for this ambitious endeavor includes a single building with five residential floors atop two stories of above-grade podium parking across two lots totaling 2.1 acres at 5916 N. Lamar Blvd and 900 Old Koenig Lane, requiring demolition of existing buildings onsite.

Developers are taking advantage of city programs such as SMART Housing and Vertical Mixed-Use (VMU) to make half the units available at an affordable rate while allowing them to exceed zoning limits in terms or unit count or building height by up to 30 feet respectively under VMU program guidelines .

This latest development from Bercy Chen Studio promises much needed housing options for those seeking affordability in Austin’s competitive real estate market
