**Walmart Plans $70 Million Superstore in Jarrell, Texas**

Walmart is set to build a new 170,000-square-foot store at Hugh Smith Land and FB Schwertner Road in Jarrell, Texas. This development marks the city’s first major grocery store chain, joining the existing Brookshire Brothers and Jarrell Supermarket. Kimley-Horn has been named as the project engineer.

To facilitate the project, Jarrell’s City Council recently approved the annexation of a half-acre parcel—a key step in finalizing the agreement with Walmart.

The new store is expected to create approximately 300 jobs and cost an estimated $70 million to construct. Texas currently hosts 593 Walmart locations, which accounts for about 11% of all Walmart stores in the U.S. The company employs about 173,000 workers across the state.

Jarrell, located at the northern edge of the Austin metropolitan area, is undergoing rapid growth. The city’s population has more than doubled in recent years, increasing from 1,753 residents in 2020 to an estimated 3,980 today.
