**UCR and Partners Complete $285M Student Housing Project in Record Time**

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., in partnership with the University of California, Riverside (UCR), Riverside Community College District (RCCD), and design firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz, has completed the $285 million North District Phase 2 Student Housing development.

Located on UCR’s main campus, the 424,000-square-foot project was delivered in just 21 months and includes 1,568 beds housed in 429 apartment-style units. Notably, the North District Phase 2 is recognized as the first completed public intersegmental student housing development in the country.

Substantial completion was achieved on schedule, with McCarthy employing prefabricated cold-formed steel wall and floor panels. These components were manufactured off-site and delivered just in time for installation, enabling production rates of up to 18,000 square feet per week.

“This project represents a breakthrough in how we think about access to housing and education,” said Sarah Carr, Vice President at McCarthy. “By delivering high-quality, affordable housing in record time, we’re helping to expand opportunities for students across the region and creating a replicable model for institutions nationwide.”
