The infrastructure is nearly complete, and Celina residents will soon get their first glimpse of the much-anticipated Shawnee Trail Project — a $1 billion, 100-acre mixed-use development spearheaded by the development arm of Rex Real Estate.

Shawnee Trail is designed to create a village-like environment, seamlessly blending retail, entertainment, residential living, and green space. The first phase of this ambitious project will feature a 200,000-square-foot Walmart, alongside office space, a restaurant, an entertainment complex, and extensive community gathering areas, including parks and an amphitheater. Additionally, the development will bring approximately 600 new apartments to the area.

Retail leasing for the project is being led by Thomas Glendenning of Shop Co. and Matthew Kiran of Glendenning 1887.

The Shawnee Trail development is expected to unfold in at least two phases.

According to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Celina is now the fourth-fastest-growing city in the United States, with a remarkable population increase of 18.2% between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024. The city’s population reached 51,661 in 2024, underscoring the demand for thoughtfully planned mixed-use projects like Shawnee Trail.
