**City Planning Commission Approves OneLIC Rezoning Plan to Bring Nearly 15,000 New Homes to Long Island City**
The New York City Planning Commission (CPC) voted on Wednesday to approve the OneLIC Neighborhood Plan, a sweeping proposal aimed at transforming Long Island City in Queens through major zoning updates and development initiatives. The plan is set to generate nearly 14,700 new apartments and more than 3.5 million square feet of new commercial and industrial space.
“Long Island City is one of New York City’s most bustling neighborhoods, but parts of it are held back by a lack of housing or economic opportunities. With today’s vote, we’re one step closer to changing that,” said Daniel Garodnick, Director of the Department of City Planning and Chair of the CPC. “The OneLIC Neighborhood Plan updates zoning for new homes and jobs and makes investments in the public realm to create a more equitable, lively, and prosperous community.”
Unveiled by the Adams administration in April, the plan represents the largest residential rezoning effort in New York City’s history. The sweeping initiative aims not only to address the city’s ongoing housing crisis but also to bolster the local economy by encouraging business growth and job creation.
The CPC’s endorsement marks a significant milestone in moving the plan forward, as it now continues through the city’s public review process.
