**Affordable Housing Development “The Becker” Breaks Ground in Mission Valley**
MVE + Partners, a prominent architectural design firm, has announced the groundbreaking of The Becker, a $140-million affordable housing complex located in San Diego’s Mission Valley. This project marks the first phase of the affordable housing component within the larger Riverwalk development — a $4-billion mixed-use and recreational master plan that will transform a former golf course into a 195-acre transit-oriented community.
The Becker development is situated at 6364 Village Drive and is being developed in collaboration with Wakeland Housing and general contractor Level 10 Construction. As the first residential housing phase of the Riverwalk project to commence construction, The Becker will play a key role in setting the tone for the project’s long-term vision of inclusivity and sustainability.
Spanning 227,000 square feet, the community will comprise three apartment buildings with a combined total of 190 affordable units. Designed for households earning between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income, the property offers a mix of housing options to suit diverse resident needs — including 46 one-bedroom, 89 two-bedroom, and 55 three-bedroom units, across four- and five-story buildings.
The larger Riverwalk development, master-planned by MVE + Partners, represents a major urban revitalization effort, aiming to create a vibrant, community-centric environment with residential, commercial, and recreational spaces seamlessly integrated around public transit.
The launch of The Becker underscores a commitment to addressing the region’s affordable housing shortage while contributing to sustainable urban growth in San Diego.
