Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership Proposes 5,000-Seat Amphitheater
The Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership has unveiled plans for a new 5,000-plus-seat amphitheater to be constructed in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem. The proposed venue is slated for potential completion and opening in spring 2026.
The amphitheater would occupy a largely vacant block bordered by Fifth, Spruce, Sixth, and Marshall Streets, situated between the Benton Convention Center and First Baptist Church. The site has been identified as a strategic location to enhance the city’s cultural and economic landscape.
Pending approval from the Winston-Salem City Council, the project requires street closures during event days and a lease agreement for a one-acre undeveloped parcel owned by the City of Winston-Salem. This parcel would serve as the amphitheater’s back-of-house operations facility.
Notably, the project does not request any public funding, tax incentives, or financial backing from the city. Furthermore, the development will proceed with no debt attached to the proposed improvements.
Once completed, the amphitheater is projected to contribute an estimated $50,000 annually in property tax revenue to the City of Winston-Salem, highlighting both its cultural and fiscal potential for the community.
