**Texas Leads the Nation in Attracting Outbound Californians**

Nearly 100,000 Californians made the move to Texas in just one year—enough to populate an entire city the size of College Station annually.

According to the latest report from StorageCafe analyzing U.S. migration trends, California continues to rank highest in outbound migration, with 683,000 residents leaving the state in a single year. Texas emerged as the top destination, absorbing 16% of all those relocating out of state.

Millennials and Gen Z are the driving forces behind this migration pattern. Millennials account for over 31% of the California-to-Texas movers, while Gen Z contributes 20%. A significant portion of these new Texans are highly educated, with about one-third holding a bachelor’s degree, and 27% working remotely—factors that make economic mobility and flexible relocation more accessible.

Top Migration Routes:

– Nearly 3,650 people moved from Los Angeles County to Travis County, lured by around 40% savings in housing costs. Austin’s technology-forward culture continues to resonate with younger, educated demographics.

– Nearly 2,200 former Los Angeles residents relocated to Tarrant County, drawn by 62% lower home prices, 24% lower rent, and an average income of $73,200. Another 2,200 Angelenos settled in Harris County.

As housing affordability challenges and cost-of-living concerns persist in California, Texas has positioned itself as a leading destination for those seeking economic opportunity, lower housing costs, and increasingly, a compatible lifestyle for remote and hybrid workers.
