**Texas Leads the Nation in Attracting Outbound Californians**
Recent data reveals that nearly 100,000 Californians relocated to Texas in just one year—enough to populate a city the size of College Station annually.
According to the latest report from StorageCafe analyzing U.S. migration trends, California continues to top the list for outbound migration, with 683,000 residents leaving the state over a single year. Texas emerged as the most popular destination, welcoming 16% of all residents moving out of California.
The movement is largely fueled by younger generations. Millennials make up over 31% of the California-to-Texas migrants, while Gen Z accounts for 20%. Many of these individuals are highly educated—with about one-third holding a bachelor’s degree—and a notable 27% are remote workers.
**Top Relocation Routes:**
– Nearly 3,650 residents moved from Los Angeles County to Travis County, where they benefit from approximately 40% lower housing costs. Austin’s booming tech culture continues to draw young, educated professionals.
– Around 2,200 people relocated from Los Angeles to Tarrant County, attracted by 62% lower home prices and 24% less expensive rents. The area also offers an average annual income of $73,200. Similarly, Harris County drew an additional 2,200 former residents of LA County.
As affordability and job flexibility continue to influence relocation decisions, Texas stands out as a leading destination for those seeking a more cost-effective and opportunity-rich environment.
