**Tesla Inks $16.5 Billion Chip Deal with Samsung**
Tesla has entered into a $16.5 billion agreement with Samsung to procure next-generation AI6 chips, which will be manufactured primarily at Samsung’s facility in Taylor, Texas.
“Samsung’s giant new Texas fab will be dedicated to making Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chip,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk in a recent post on X. “The strategic importance of this is hard to overstate.”
These AI6 chips mark the latest advancement in Tesla’s custom-designed silicon. They are set to power Tesla’s autonomous vehicles, robotics, and artificial intelligence infrastructure, underscoring the company’s intensifying focus on AI.
This monumental deal provides a significant boost for Samsung’s Taylor facility, which has previously faced challenges launching its chip-making operations due to difficulties securing key partnerships. Musk also hinted that Tesla’s investment in Samsung could surpass the $16.5 billion mark as demand and production scale up.
Running through 2033, the contract positions Samsung as the primary foundry partner for the AI6 chip. The agreement grants Tesla substantial control over the production process, with Musk stating he plans to personally walk the chip fabrication line. Samsung has allowed Tesla oversight and participation in optimizing chip production operations.
This partnership solidifies a key step in Tesla’s ambitious roadmap to accelerate innovation in AI-enabled technologies.
