Midland ISD Begins Construction on Two New High School Campuses
In a significant step toward modernizing its educational infrastructure, the Midland Independent School District (ISD) in West Texas has commenced construction on two new high school campuses totaling 1.5 million square feet. These state-of-the-art facilities will replace existing school buildings that are 62 and 94 years old, respectively.
The first phase of development includes the Legacy High Campus, which is designed to accommodate between 3,800 and 4,200 students. Scheduled for completion in August 2028, the new campus represents a major investment in the future of education for the community. A groundbreaking ceremony was also recently held for the new Midland High School.
The ambitious project is being made possible through a $1.4 billion bond approved by Midland taxpayers in 2023. Key project partners include Pfluger Architects, Satterfield & Pontikes, and Lee Lewis Construction.
Both campuses will receive major upgrades to facilities supporting the arts and athletics. Features include six art labs, a photography studio, dedicated spaces for band, choir, orchestra, and mariachi practice, an 800-seat auditorium, and a 2,000-seat competition gymnasium. Additional amenities will include multipurpose gyms and a versatile indoor practice facility to serve marching band, cheerleading, drill team, and athletic programs.
Midland ISD’s investment underscores its commitment to providing students with modern, high-quality educational environments that support both academic and extracurricular excellence.
