**WinnCompanies Unveils $85M Adaptive Reuse Project in New Britain, Connecticut**
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart joined executives from WinnCompanies to celebrate the grand opening of the Ellis Block Apartments, a transformative $85-million adaptive reuse project near downtown New Britain.
The project redeveloped the historic Landers, Frary & Clark manufacturing complex—vacant for many years—into 154 units of modern, affordable housing. This included the renovation of four buildings dating back 115 years. The mixed-income development features 79 one-bedroom, 59 two-bedroom, and 16 three-bedroom apartments, catering to young professionals, middle-income families, and fixed-income seniors.
The 22-month construction initiative delivered a significant economic boost to the area, generating more than 604 direct and indirect jobs and contributing nearly $108 million in economic impact to the New Britain region. The City of New Britain supported the project through a fixed tax assessment and allocation of local HOME program funds.
“As we stand here today, all but four apartments are already occupied in this community, underscoring the strong demand for quality, affordable and workforce housing in New Britain,” said Adam Stein, Executive Vice President of WinnDevelopment.
The Ellis Block Apartments mark a major milestone in the revitalization of historic structures for much-needed housing while preserving New Britain’s industrial heritage.
