**Dated Atlanta Mall May Allot Space for Apartments**

Like many malls across the United States, Northlake Mall in the Atlanta suburb of Tucker has seen better days. Now under the ownership of ATR Corinth Partners, the once-bustling shopping destination is in the midst of a revitalization effort.

As part of these plans, Trammell Crow Residential is proposing the development of nearly 500 apartment units on an 11-acre site near the mall’s food court. The proposal is currently pending a vote by the Tucker City Council.

Northlake Mall originally opened in 1971 and was, at the time, the largest mall in Atlanta, boasting 1 million square feet of space and housing around 100 tenants. ATR acquired the aging property in 2016 and has since been working to revitalize the site.

Increasingly, mall owners have turned to residential development as a strategy to boost foot traffic and revitalize underperforming retail properties. In nearby projects, approximately 1,800 residential units are set to be developed as part of Lulah Hills, the planned replacement of North DeKalb Mall. Similarly, up to 3,800 housing units are being considered for the Gwinnett Place Mall site, which is largely dormant.

These projects reflect a growing trend of repurposing aging retail spaces into mixed-use communities that include residential components, aiming to breathe new life into once-thriving commercial hubs.
