**Development Team Breaks Ground on Final Phase of La Central Housing Project in the Bronx**
New York City Mayor Eric Adams joined representatives from BRP Companies, Hudson Companies, J.P. Morgan, and other project partners to officially break ground on Phase II of the La Central housing development in the Melrose neighborhood of the Bronx. The initiative will deliver 420 new affordable housing units, including a mix of studio to four-bedroom apartments and 63 supportive housing units.
With a projected cost of $343 million, the development is backed by a significant public-private partnership. The Adams administration is contributing over $137 million through the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
In addition to residential units, Phase II will feature 13,000 square feet of community facility space, 1,500 square feet of retail space, and 7,000 square feet of landscaped public gardens for residents and the surrounding community.
This phase represents the final stage of the La Central master plan, which, upon completion, will have created more than 1,000 mixed-income housing units. The comprehensive development also includes a YMCA, a production studio, and extensive green spaces, significantly enhancing the community infrastructure in the South Bronx.
