Western Washington University (WWU) has officially broken ground on the first publicly funded zero-energy academic building in Washington State. Named Kaiser Borsari Hall, this new electrical and computer engineering, energy science, and computer science facility will significantly expand capacity within WWU’s rapidly growing degree programs.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for Kaiser Borsari Hall, WWU President Sabah Randhawa said: “This science and engineering facility will be a place for collaboration, connection and innovation – nurturing areas of study that are essential to the future needs of Washington state industries employers and communities.”
The design of this building is also a major milestone as it is set to become all mass timber structure with zero-energy capabilities while maintaining carbon neutrality. Anthony Gianopoulos from Perkins&Will who designed the project stated: “Kaiser Borsari Hall marks an important watershed moment for public facilities in our state.”
