**Magnolia to Lift Development Moratorium as Water Infrastructure Projects Near Completion**
Magnolia, a city in the Houston metropolitan area, is set to lift its building moratorium in the coming months, bringing positive news for commercial developers eager to resume projects in the region.
The moratorium, initially enacted in December 2022, was introduced in response to an anticipated water shortage tied to the rapid pace of development. To manage the situation, the city restricted new water hookups, effectively pausing large-scale residential and commercial construction.
According to Community Impact, the city has invested $30.2 million in infrastructure improvements, including the construction of new wells, tanks, and booster pump stations. These projects are nearing completion, positioning Magnolia to ease development restrictions as early as September.
City officials anticipate a significant increase in development activity once the moratorium is lifted. To proactively manage future growth and ensure adequate water supply, Magnolia has already secured land for a fifth water plant and is in search of additional property to establish a sixth facility.
