**MTA’s East Harlem Development Plan Enters Public Review**

The Adams administration has officially launched the public review process for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) proposed rezoning at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue in East Harlem. The plan outlines the transformation of a long-vacant lot into a 38-story mixed-use tower featuring 680 rental apartments, approximately 150 of which will be designated as affordable housing.

The new development is slated to rise above the forthcoming East 125th Street Q train station, which will serve as the northern terminus of the Second Avenue Subway extension. The site, once home to a Pathmark supermarket, has remained empty since the store’s closure in 2015.

“Access to transit makes living in New York more convenient and affordable, and this area has all kinds of subway, bus, and commuter rail access,” said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. “With the coming Second Avenue Subway extension, this area continues to become even more attractive.”

The public review process is expected to last approximately seven months and will conclude with a vote by the New York City Council. The proposed project reflects the city’s broader goals of transit-oriented development and increasing affordable housing stock in key neighborhoods.
