Hoffman Construction to Build $150M WNBA and Thorns Training Facility in Hillsboro
Hoffman Construction has been selected to lead the development of a new $150 million performance center in Hillsboro, Oregon. The state-of-the-art facility will serve as the primary training site for both the Portland Thorns of the National Women’s Soccer League and Portland’s forthcoming WNBA franchise.
This dual-use training center broke ground in April and is slated for completion in 2026. Both teams using the facility were acquired by RAJ Sports in early 2024 for a reported $188 million.
Hoffman Construction is no stranger to large-scale infrastructure and civic projects in Portland and the Pacific Northwest. The firm previously oversaw the major renovation of Portland International Airport’s terminal and has been involved in the development of the upcoming James Beard Public Market.
“We’re honored to help shape the next chapter of women’s professional sports in this city,” said Nima Darabi, executive vice president at Hoffman Construction. “Our team is committed to delivering a transformative, sustainable facility that reflects the passion and excellence of these athletes.”
Mike Whitehead, managing director of RAJ Sports, expressed a similarly enthusiastic outlook. “Hoffman Construction has shaped some of the most iconic facilities in the Pacific Northwest,” he said. “This partnership reflects our shared focus on sustainability, innovation, and community—and our vision to position Portland as the global leader in women’s sports.”
Once completed, the Hillsboro performance center is expected to become a central hub for advancing women’s professional athletics in the region, reinforcing Portland’s role as a national leader in sports infrastructure and community-driven development.
