**Treasure Island’s Iconic Sands Hotel Set for Demolition and Redevelopment**
The Sands of Treasure Island, a historic hotel built in 1947, is set to be demolished within the month following structural damage from a series of storms. The landmark property, purchased in 2017 by Impact Properties for $5.25 million, has been a fixture of the beachfront community for more than 75 years.
While Impact Properties has not publicly announced detailed redevelopment plans, industry speculation suggests the site may be transformed into a boutique hotel, with potential additions such as a restaurant and townhomes. The company is currently collaborating with Kimmich Smith Architecture on conceptual designs for the site. In support of the redevelopment, STK Capital has provided a $4.5 million bridge loan.
Impact Properties has a history of involvement in the hospitality sector, with previous projects including The Westin Tampa Bay, which it has since sold.
The Sands is not alone in its fate. Other resorts in the area—such as the Thunderbird Beach Resort and the Schooner Hotel on nearby Madeira Beach—have also sustained significant storm damage and are planned for demolition. These changes mark a broader transition along the Gulf Coast as aging beachfront properties are phased out for modernized developments.
