Houston Spaceport to Invest $80M in Major Expansion Project

The Houston Spaceport is looking to triple its footprint and invest $80 million in an expansion project that will attract more aerospace-related businesses, as well as hotels, restaurants and retail. Additionally, the second phase of the project involves developing an Aerospace Institute to train aerospace workers. A taxiway in the northwest of phases one and two is also under construction; it will enable aircrafts to take off or land next to nearby aerospace companies for unloading parts for their space stations.

Space Center Houston has plans for constructing a Lunar Mars Surface Integration Facility – two large enclosed structures that simulate terrains found on both moon and Mars – where visitors can watch astronauts training from an elevated exhibit hall. The new facility adds at least 60,000 square feet of exhibit space onto existing 120,000 square feet; ground breaking expected within next two years.
