### Bay Area Emerges as Global Hub for Generative AI
The Bay Area has solidified its position as the epicenter of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), according to a newly released report by Cushman & Wakefield. The region hosts the headquarters of 825 GenAI companies—nearly three-and-a-half times more than second-ranked New York City, which has 237. In 2024, these companies absorbed 82% of global GenAI venture capital.
“GenAI companies are helping the San Francisco economy recover from its pandemic-based struggles,” the report states. A significant wave of leasing activity and job creation has followed, counteracting the space reductions and layoffs seen among other tech companies. While not a complete solution, this resurgence marks a promising step toward economic recovery, with both tech and non-tech firms contributing to the momentum.
Cushman & Wakefield projects a 200% increase in the footprint of GenAI companies in the Bay Area over the next 24 months.
