### Pierce County Allocates Over $17 Million for Affordable Housing

Pierce County has announced over $17 million in funding from the Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Sales Tax to support affordable housing initiatives. These investments will aid in the creation, preservation, and maintenance of more than 330 affordable housing units across the county, including in cities such as Tacoma, Lakewood, and Puyallup.

“Affordable housing is one of our region’s greatest, most urgent challenges,” said County Executive Ryan N. Mello. “The recent Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Sales Tax is allowing us to build hundreds of homes for Pierce County’s working families, seniors, people with disabilities, and others with lower incomes. I’m proud to see these dollars being put to work in our communities.”

Approved in 2023, the Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Sales Tax has significantly expanded the county’s ability to fund housing projects. To date, the tax has contributed to the completion of 253 affordable housing units, with 98 units currently under construction and 261 more in development.
