Sandeep Mathrani Resigns as WeWork CEO

WeWork recently announced that Sandeep Mathrani will step down as Chairman, CEO, and director on May 26th. David Tolley has been appointed interim CEO in his place.

Mathrani was appointed chairman in March 2022 following Marcelo Claure’s tenure. During his three-year leadership of the company, he successfully navigated a failed IPO and investor concerns regarding corporate governance practices before taking WeWork public in 2021. “It has been an honor to lead WeWork through its transformation,” said Mathrani upon stepping down from the role. “Over the last three years we have restored our brand image, grown revenue significantly, right-sized our operations for long term sustainability and developed new product lines.”

Tolley brings over 25 years of experience to this position including serving as CFO at Intelsat S.A., OneWeb and other companies throughout his career path . The board of directors have also appointed Daniel Hurwitz as chairman who will lead their search for a permanent CEO replacement while Mathrani joins Sycamore Partners to head up their real estate activity .
