### Ports of LA and Long Beach Record Busiest January Ever

Ahead of an anticipated round of tariffs on goods from China, Mexico, and Canada, both the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach experienced their busiest January on record. The Port of Long Beach reported handling 952,733 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), making it the second busiest month in its history.

The Port of Los Angeles also saw significant growth, moving 924,245 TEUs in January 2025—an 8% increase from the previous year. Combined, the two San Pedro ports handled nearly 20 million TEUs in 2024, marking their second-busiest year on record, according to *L.A. Business First*.

“This January milestone adds to a great run of strong volume, with the last seven months averaging more than 927,000 container units,” said Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of LA. He attributed the surge to a strong economy, importers rushing to bring in cargo ahead of potential tariffs, and pre-Lunar New Year shipping activity.
