The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a survey on the current work environment policies of local businesses, as part of their new Pulse of Greater Boston Business series. The results revealed that hybrid work arrangements have become the standard for most employers in the area.
In December 2024, 120 respondents from Massachusetts were surveyed and it was found that 85%of local businesses have adopted hybrid models. Additionally, 72% allow employees to choose which days they work in the office and over half (55%) reported having employees come into the office three days per week.
The survey also asked about future plans for office space usage. In the past year, majority (71%) did not make any changes to their office space while some (11%) increased it. Looking ahead to next year, most occupiers (64%) do not plan on changing their current office space but some are planning increases (10%), while others are planning decreases(6%).
Overall, the findings show that hybrid work arrangements have become commonplace among Boston-area employers and many do not anticipate significant changes in their use of physical workspace in near future.
