Nuveen Real Estate has acquired Short Pump Station, a 91,369-square-foot shopping center located in the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. The property was previously owned by Wafra Inc., who purchased it from an affiliate of AMCap in 2021.
This transaction marks the first successful sale for Wafra’s core plus vehicle, which launched earlier this year. Cushman & Wakefield advised Wafra on the sale with John Owendoff leading the team. Short Pump Station is anchored by popular grocery retailer Trader Joe’s and receives approximately 2.3 million visitors annually, ranking it among the top 15% of shopping centers nationwide.
According to Ryan Boan, U.S Head of Retail Transactions at Nuveen Real Estate: “Short Pump Station perfectly aligns with our strategy to invest in grocery-anchored neighborhood retail properties in high-growth areas like Short Pump.” This acquisition marks Nuveen Real Estate’s second investment within Richmond MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area).
