Redevelopment of Long-Vacant Pilsen Site Sought by City

For over a decade, the six-acre site in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood has remained vacant. The Chicago Plan Commission (CPC) is set to review a proposal from the city’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and Department of Housing that could finally bring redevelopment to this area. Peter Strazzabosco, deputy commissioner for the DPD, noted that if approved by CPC next week “it would formalize the community’s expectations for future developers and facilitate the review and approval of proposed projects on [the] site.”
The plan includes 432 residential units, 337 parking spaces, 11000 square feet of commercial space as well as 150 000 square feet public space located on city-owned land. City officials will present their proposal at an upcoming May 18th CPC meeting with hopes it will be approved soon after so they can move forward in seeking out potential developers for this mixed use project.
