Tishman Speyer Announces January Start for Affordable Project in Kingsbridge

Tishman Speyer’s TS Communities, a division focused on developing affordable housing, announced on Friday that it has secured financing and will begin construction in January of an eight-story apartment building at 160 Van Cortlandt Park S. in the Bronx neighborhood of Kingsbridge. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.

The development, which will consist of 339 units, will be built on a portion of a full-city block that was previously occupied by the Visitation Church and School. Tishman Speyer acquired this portion from the Archdiocese of New York in 2022 after the parish merged with another nearby church in 2015. The remaining part of the block was purchased by the New York City School Construction Authority for an elementary school.

According to Michelle Adams, senior managing director at Tishman Speyer: “This project is a result of years-long partnerships and cooperation between various entities including New York City government officials, Archdiocese representatives, teachers’ union members and local community members.” She also added that this development will provide much-needed homes for hundreds families.
