A group of national real estate organizations, including The Real Estate Roundtable, the National Multifamily Housing Council, and the Mortgage Bankers Association, have joined forces to advocate for Congress’ support of the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream to Housing Act (ROAD to Housing Act). This legislation (S. 5027 | H.R. 990), introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rep. French Hill (R-AR), aims to increase housing affordability and availability.
In a letter addressed to Congress, these associations emphasized that enacting this legislation would be a significant step towards addressing the nation’s housing affordability crisis caused by insufficient supply. They urged Congress and federal agencies responsible for regulating key aspects of housing policy to prioritize finding solutions.
The ROAD To Housing Act includes various measures such as reforms aimed at increasing options for affordable housing construction, small-dollar mortgage lending opportunities,
construction grants,
and building or preserving homes in designated Opportunity Zones.
Additionally,
the bill seeks
to establish regular communication between federal agencies and Congress on sustainable strategies regarding housing matters.
