The San Antonio Housing Trust is seeking a partner to help expand its affordable housing program. The plan involves building three new communities in the Vida neighborhood on the south side of town, with a total of 530 units. The first phase will consist of 90 units designated for seniors.
According to an article by the San Antonio Business Journal, local architectural firm Lake Flato has been selected to handle the master planning phase. However, no decisions have been made yet regarding which developer or architect will be involved in the project. An RFP process is expected to begin before January.
Of these senior housing units, 20% will be considered affordable and targeted towards residents earning only 30% of San Antonio’s area median income. This makes it eligible for funding through the city’s 9% housing tax credit program.
Phase two is scheduled to begin in 2026, followed by phase three a few years later.
