The San Antonio Housing Trust is seeking a partner to help expand its affordable housing program. The goal is to build 530 units in three separate communities within the Vida community on the south side of town. The first phase will consist of 90 senior housing units.
According to an article from the San Antonio Business Journal, local architectural firm Lake Flato has been chosen for the master planning phase, but no decisions have been made yet regarding a developer or architect for record. An RFP process will begin before the end of this year.
Of these senior housing units, 20% will be designated as affordable and targeted towards residents with incomes at or below 30% of San Antonio’s area median income. This project is expected to qualify for the 9% housing tax credit program.
Phase two is projected to start in 2026, with phase three following shortly after that.
In December of 2023, The Housing Trust completed its purchase of a $3.5 million site spanning over twenty acres for this project using funds from Frost Bank and approximately $1.3 million in equity investments.
