Georgia State University is embarking on a major project that will bring significant changes to its downtown campus. With an estimated cost of $107 million, the majority of funding for this transformational endeavor will come from a generous $80 million donation from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation.
The development plan includes revitalizing the Hurt Park area by demolishing Sparks Hall and incorporating it into the existing Greenway on campus. This district will span across Gilmer Street and connect to Hurt Park, featuring an elevated plaza, improved walkways, and a green buffer along Courtland Street.
On the northern end of Hurt Park, 100 Edgewood building will undergo renovations to add a dining area and gathering space. The first four floors of this building will also be updated with modern classrooms connected by interconnecting stairways.
In addition to these changes, there are plans for enhancing other buildings in the vicinity as well. The Arts and Humanities Building overlooking the newly activated outdoor hub is set to receive a more contemporary façade.
At Woodruff Park, new sidewalks are being constructed along with realigned streetcar platforms for better accessibility. Façade improvements are also planned for 25 Park Place building as well as creating pedestrian-friendly features that connect Broad Street with Aderhold Learning Center.
